Novella Mobile FAQ’s

Our multi-page “start” experience let’s you ask a single loved one to respond to just one initial question via video. You can choose the question from our Ideabank or write your own. You’ll also customize a note, provide contact info, and then allow Novella to email the invite to your loved one.

After the “Spotlight” (your loved one, or it can be yourself!), records their first video, you’ll need to create a Novella account and password to view the recording. The email used to create the account needs to be the same one you used during the start process.

After creating an account and logging in, you’ll be taken to a page that lists your “Communities” – one will be titled with the name of your Spotlight.

When you click to enter the Community, you’ll be able to watch video answers, ask additional questions, invite any other people (like family) to collaborate and ask questions themselves, comment on videos, like, and more!

We ask you to select just one person and one quesiton to start, because it provides an introductory experience to using Novella. You can ask any number of additioanl questions later on!

Additionally, you can invite more than one loved one by using our traditional Novella invite method. Please email team@meetnovella.com for more information on taking this route.

During our “beta” phase, Novella Mobile is FREE to try and use with your loved ones. Going forward, you will continue to have access to any videos recorded through your use of Novella! We’d love to hear your feeback about Novella Mobile at team@meetnovella.com.

By trying and using Novella Mobile during the beta phase, you are not making any commitments to paid services of any kind.

Be assured that your Novella videos will only be viewed by those you provide access to yourself. You will invite others to view video inside of your Novella “Community”.

Novella doesn’t take up space on your mobile device or computer. Videos are streamed directly from our platform.

No, Novella doesn’t require any download, and can be used from any mobile device with a camera! We are in the process of building a mobile app that you will be able to download, and we’ll ensure to notify you when it’s available.

Novella has a private and secure platform where we store and stream your video using end-to-end encryption. Through a secure, online platform, we enable convenient, yet private sharing with your family.

You can invite others to view video inside of any Novella Community through the “Members” tab.

You can use different devices to record Novella video – including any mobile device with a browser (Apple iOS, Android, smartphones, tablets).

Different devices will produce variations in quality, but we are happy to advise on which devices are best to be used. Please email team@meetnovella.com with questions!

For now, recent model Android devices will provide you with the hightest quality recordings due to advanced browser capabilities.

If you would like to increase the quality of videos using an Apple iOS device, you can record using your device’s built-in camera app, and then upload the video file for a Novella question from your device video library.

Novella’s upcoming mobile app will increase recording resolution directly within Novella mobile on Apple iOS devices.

For now, not directly. To record on desktop computers (PC, Mac) with an attached webcam or other camera, you will first need to record the video to the computer itself (using any installed software or web-to-computer recording software), and then upload the video file into Novella to any specific question.

You can do this via a camera you have at home, and upload to Novella using your desktop browser. Let us know if you need assistance at team@meetnovella.com!

While the default experience is between you and your Spotlight, here are some other ideas to experiment with!

• Select yourself as the Spotlight. Share about your life as a gift to give others!
• Create a community with your family named as the Spotlight, for example “Williams Family”. Everyone can contribute writing prompts or questions, and everyone can submit answers to be watched by others in the community. Try it during the holidays and have everyone share what they’re thankful for!
• Create a community and invite people with a shared experience, such as a Veteran’s group. Recording, sharing, and saving experiences is a therapeutic and helpful process.

Use a Novella community to honor the memory of someone who has already passed. We’ve used Novella for Celebration of Life events where people collectively record and share memories of a loved one.

Yes! It’s a great idea to gift Novella Mobile to someone in your life. Asking them to share about themselves conveys how much you care!
